Aims to harmonise mind, body and spirit.

Hatha Yoga is the main type practiced in the west. It consists of a series of physical body postures which are performed in sequence followed by relaxation.The postures are said to affect the body's energy flow. Breathing practice is also used, either while performing the postures or done separately. Breath is viewed as a life force and is therefore very important. The practice harnesses and controls the energy flow. It is suitable for people of any age or level of fitness and can also be practiced by people with disabilities.

Practitioners claim it can ease stress by teaching you how to let go of tension, it can also bring about a state of balance and harmony of mind, body and spirit. Each posture affects a specific area of the body and working through a series of postures improves it's health and tone.You will not be left feeling drained or fatigued as can happen with other forms of exercise, but the relaxing nature of these exercises and the effects they have on energy flows will leave you feeling re-vitalized and relaxed.

Research into Ageing says that although it has not been rigorously studied by scientists the consensus is that this form of exercise can help :-

Maintain flexibility.

Maintain muscle tone and strength.

Reduce anxiety.

Develop body awareness.
(This effect is very important since, as we age, the sensors that tell us where our body parts are become less efficient.)
