FOOD is your body's FUEL Use the best you can.
Your body takes in and uses food and drink as fuel just as cars and planes use fuel in the form of petrol/diesel and aviation fuel. The fuel is converted to energy which enables the car or plane or you to function. A plane is extremely restricted in the type of fuel it uses. Get it wrong and it won’t fly. Cars are a little more tolerant. Put low grade fuel in and although it may cough and splutter it’ll still run for some time. Your human body is the most tolerant. It is able to run for years, although not at peak performance, on a low grade or even the wrong fuel. So long in fact that the little problems caused are rarely noticed until they have grown to be major. Here are some facts you may not be aware of : According to the National Audit Office Report on Tackling Obesity in England 2001, the four most common health problems related to obesity are; High blood pressure, Coronary Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and certain cancers. The Commission of European Communities Green Paper on 'Promoting Healthy Diets and Physical Activity' highlights that : Type 2 Diabetes is related to obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and diets high in fat and saturated fatty acids. Dietary factors are estimated to account for approximately 30% of all cancers in industrialised countries. According to Cancer Research UK, Experts think that about a quarter of all cancer deaths are caused by unhealthy diets and increasing obesity. The British Heart Foundation found that one of the main reasons Coronary Heart Disease rates are high in the UK is because the average diet is so unhealthy.
This can be the reality of our daily diet.

Why is such a large proportion of the population sick and overweight? There is concern over the nutritional value of what we eat in today’s western diet due to changes in the way our food is grown or reared, the length of time which passes between harvesting and consumption and the distances it travels to consumers. Also the effects of the high levels of processing used today compared with earlier times. It is often said that when food is processed a substantial amount of its nutritional value is processed out of it.The western diet available today often involves the consumption of excess or empty calories increasing your total energy input but with questionable nutritional value. With this in mind, I'm sure you understand that It is possible to be well fed and poorly nourished at the same time. Some of the health risks connected with a poor diet are :
Weakened immune system resulting in more frequent infections. Osteoporosis -- weakened bones. Weak muscles and poor skin tone producing premature aging. Regardless of weight, income level or present state of health, if the variety and quality of the food in your diet is poor you may not be getting enough of the nutrition you need. A balanced diet rich in nutrients will help you look and feel better inside and out.
